Meet the artist
My name is Amanda Esplugues. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and now I dedicate myself to bringing the spirits of nature to life through art—especially graphite, although I’m passionate about experimenting with all kinds of techniques, including sculptural ones.
I grew up and still live with my family (two little ones, my husband, cats, and dogs) in a small village in Valencia, Spain, near the mountains and the forest, for which I have always felt deep love and fascination. Discovering all its inhabitants has always been my favorite hobby, and for many years I would wander with a camera in hand, trying to capture every creature and plant that caught my attention, imagining all the beings of the subtle realms that my eyes could not perceive…
For as long as I can remember, I have felt drawn to that invisible world—folklore and stories about magical beings. As a child, I traveled often with my parents and younger brother to the north of Spain. Magic seems to breathe in every corner there, and there are countless stories of all kinds of beings in its popular imagination. This further ignited my admiration for fantastical creatures and magical realms. The truth is that all kinds of creatures inhabit the collective imagination of cultures all over the planet. Benevolent, malevolent, or simply mischievous beings have accompanied humanity since its beginnings, transmitting the values, wisdom, and knowledge needed in their time.
Today, however, it feels as though these beings have been forgotten, hidden beneath haste and information overload. I have chosen instead to return to the forest, to live slowly, to observe life in its fullness, and to draw what my eyes cannot see but my heart deeply feels—the spirit of the planet expressed in infinite, magical forms, guiding us back to our true nature and to balance.
I’ve tried to keep up with social media, especially Instagram, but its fast pace and constant noise drain my energy and cloud my mind. So I’ve chosen to step back and stay true to my own rhythm.
That’s why I created a monthly, blog-style newsletter where I share my sketches, sculptures, creative process, and the stories behind each creature. I choose a slower, more intentional path—doing what I love most: bringing guardian creatures to life through art 🖤
